Summer Week 3 - Ocean Week!
It just so happens that the girls and I are head over heels in love with Ellen. We are crazy for Nemo and have been counting down the days until Finding Dory! So it made sense the this week should be Ocean Week!
Monday morning, I had to deliver some invitations to a client pretty early so instead of coming back to the house to get the girls for swim school, I dragged them along with me and we stopped for a quick breakfast. Pancakes by the duck pond! It was cloudy which meant it was actually bearable outside!
Next stop, swim school! This was the last week of the 1st session and Sophia was super excited to finally get to jump off the diving board. She was so cute jumping off and we are really excited that she has made so much progress in her swimming in the last 3 weeks!
After a little bossing her coach around, she jumped right in and swam to the side!
And I had NO idea that Ellie was going to get to jump in too! No fear for this kiddo!
My little FISH seriously LOVE swim school!
Next, I had Sophia's Kiwi Crates on hold for this week because it was perfect! We made a jellyfish ratchet race! We also watched some videos on Teacher Tube about jellyfish. Sophia was not impressed by the idea of jelly fish eating each other! Yuck!
If you're not familiar with Kiwi Crate, it's a monthly subscription that includes a "STEAM" project sent out each month right to your door. Each one has been fun and the girls learn a lot too!
Later in the week, some friends came over while their parents were moving. It was HOT HOT HOT so we couldn't go outside to play. Instead, we decided to REALLY get Dory-ready by watching Finding Nemo. We also had some sea-themed snacks: Goldfish Crackers, Octopus String Cheese, and Peanut Butter and Jelly-fish sandwiches ;)
We also made mini-ocean sugar cookies :)
Next up, we did a few activities I found on Pinterest. This is Sophia's version of the ocean. Clearly you can see Dory & Nemo (although I told her it would more likely be Marlin and she disagreed). There is also a jelly fish, black & white snake fish and a "butt fish" that we saw on the Shallow Seas episode of Planet Earth.
You can get the printable here along with a bunch of other creativity starters and other activities.
Sophia also helped Ellie with this project. Sophia read the instructions and Ellie did it. I told Soph that no matter what, she couldn't color for Ellie, she could only guide her and give her instructions.
We also did this math project and this one but I didn't snap any pics :/
We ended the weekend with a #FunFriday for the books! It was DORY DAY!! Wooooot! The whole crew was headed to Albuquerque for Big Bear & Lady's baby shower. We brought Grandma with us and decided to make a mini-vacay out of it by staying at an Embassy Suites. We love to do this because the girls get a kick out of sleeping in a hotel, having everyone staying at the same place, and the fun breakfast!
Before the movie, we went to dinner at Asian Noodle Bar downtown. We may or may not have eaten sushi before going to the movie. Don't judge.
Finally, this has nothing to do with Ocean Week but we finished out the weekend by celebrating Ken's birthday and Father's Day. We had a huge crowd at Pappadeax Saturday night. Ken definitely felt the love!
Finally, Sunday morning we went to brunch with the entire Frost Gang. Ellie sat at the head of a LONG table and was every bit the boss of the brunch.
